Be careful. It is illegal to boycott Israeli goods in the USA. Check this out: http://www.boycottwatch.org/abi/divest002.htm I read a while ago (I can't find a link, sorry) that over $23 million dollars in fines have been handed out for attempting to boycott Israeli goods, and for even inquiring if a product is made in Israel. That too is against the law in the good old US of A.

Boycotting Israel
by Crumpet ini see that quite a few are following the dreadful attacks in lebanon.
today i went swimming to cool off with mr c and we were discussing what ways we could make our disapproval and anger at israels actions felt, besides being human shields.
(mr c reckons i'm big enough to stop one missile, but would be pretty useless after that.

Why does god allow suffering?
by GBSJG ini always had trouble with answering that question.
if there is a god why is there so much suffering?
so i looked up the offical explanation of the wts in the bible teach book chapter 11 paragraph 12 says: let us consider an illustration.

God allows suffering because he enjoys it. Read the OT and see how much suffering and death he handed out.

How many people did Satan kill in the Bible?
by Stan Conroy infor some reason i've been wondering about this lately.
i've read the bible end to end many years ago, and i can't recall how many people satan personally struck down.
i'm not talking about twisted reasonings and long term implications.

So if the adversary in Job cannot positively be identified as Satan, then perhaps Satan didn't kill anyone. Maybe he has a clean record. But Yahweh on the other hand is depicted as a blood thirsty killer. Interesting, I would say. Now in the NT, Yahweh all of a sudden is about love and forgiveness. Too bad for the millions slaughtered by him in Bible part 1 that he didn't have his Jekel and Hyde personality disorder under control a couple thousand years earlier. Or maybe Yahweh is not the Father Jesus spoke of in the NT? That seems a more rational explanation (if the word rational can be used when discussing religion).

"The way I understand it, satan doesn't have the power to actually kill anyone...only god can give someone or something the ability to kill."
I have the ability to kill. Did God give that to me? If so, why am I granted this power, and Satan wasn't?
We all know that Yahweh of the OT slaughtered practically everything that moved. Men, women, children, animals. He killed off civilizations, and he killed off races.
But Satan, on the other hand, killed a handful of people with God's blessing.
Perhaps, if (and that's a big if) the Bible is a historically accurate document, perhaps it was history recorded by the victor, as is always the case. Perhaps Yahweh prevailed because of his excessive thirst for blood, which Satan didn't have the stomach for. (Except of course that time that he was defeated because the enemy had chariots of iron).
I can't help but imagine the whole God vs Satan thing is more like an episode of Stargate SG1 than a story about an almighty creator of the universe and the epitome of evil as his foe. Perhaps they were travelers who came to enslave the earth, along with Marduk, Baal and all the rest of those false gods. -

Ah yes, the story of Job. I forgot about that one. It does seem that Satan directly killed Job's children, with God's blessing of course.

For some reason I've been wondering about this lately. I've read the Bible end to end many years ago, and I can't recall how many people Satan personally struck down. Was there any? I'm not talking about twisted reasonings and long term implications. I mean personally pointed his finger and zapped the life out of someone.

Hi Wannaexit,
"Stan, what is the matter with you. If you wouldn't sleep through the meetings so often you'd know and I wouldn't have to jab you in the ribs to wake you up..........................your wife Betty"
I missed this way back when I asked this question. I never liked that senile old man. So if you know Stan, then you probably know me too.

GET REAL PEOPLE !!
by Simon indo some of you expect?!?!.
i am extremely disappointed to read some people's comments about the latest news.
it is one thing to express and opinion, perhaps that you think it isn't as big as you imagined (one wonders what you imagined) but it is another to be downright insulting to people who have put a lot of time and effort into this.. get real.

I happened upon this whole "Big News" issue a couple of days ago, when I made one of my rare visits to this site. I read page after page of speculation, teases, counter-arguments, more teases etc. I will admit I was slightly curious. I say slightly, because I don't really care what happens to the WTS. I have family who are in the JW's and who shun me, but that was their decision, not mine. We all live with it, and I'm fine with that.
What hit me as truly pathetic was the degree to which posters got caught up in this "Big News". Some couldn't sleep. Others were having their jobs effected. I read speculation that involved terrorists, homosexuality, hurricane Katrina, everything short of the WTS killing JFK. What a joke this must be to loyal JW's who (naughty as it is) lurk on this site, or the JW management in New York who "keep their enemies close" by watching this site.
When the "Big News" is finally revealed, it turns out to be a dud. An essay about the JW's misrepresenting facts? That's news? I've known that for years. So it is about the blood issue this time. So what! Does anyone really think this is going to matter? JW's abstain from blood for scriptual reasons (although they are wrong, it is their right to believe what they want) Any JW will tell you that they would abstain because of scripture, not medical reasons. The fact that they misrepresented the dangers of blood transfusions will mean nothing, as this is not the motivation for abstinence.
You want to sue them over this? Go for it. But as any large corporation would do, they will drag this out until they have bled every last cent you have, and in the end, you will lose everything.
You want to see the effects of "Big News"? Dropping the whole 1914 generation thing a decade ago was "big news". The WTS's involvement with the UN was "big news". The degree of pedophilia in the WTS was "big news". What did all these authentic "big news" issues result in? Not much. You honestly think an essay from a new lawyer with a chip on her shoulder, published in a minor journal from a Bible college is going to do anything? What a joke.
There is only one way that the WTS will be brought down, and I have seen it repeated numerous times, yet no one seems to have caught it. Follow the money. Find out where the hundreds of millions of dollars are going. What are they investing in? Does it conflict with the Bible? I have read speculation about the WTS investing in companies that build high tech military hardware. If you can prove something along those lines, then you have "Big News" that will hurt. How do you think the average JW would feel if he knew his contributions were building bombs that were killing innocent civilians on the other side of the globe?
Of course all of this is just the opinion of someone who doesn't really care about any of this. There are "bigger fish to fry" in this struggle called life.
So flame away...
